THE HACKETT FAMILY

God's Will is Our Command

130th Hackett Family Reunion

Hello To All Hackett’s,

It is again time to start thinking about the cool fall weather. That’s right, Family Reunion weekend is approaching fast, and as always, the weekend after Labor Day, the dates for the 130th Reunion are September 11th, 12th & 13th, 2009. We will be holding our Reunion at the same location; The Paradise Motel, 1700 Wisconsin Dells Pkwy (Hwy 12), Wisconsin Dells, WI, 53965. Phone number is (608) 254-7333.

Last year was a fantastic Reunion with lots of activities and just the right amount of changes to make it fresh and new. All of the officer’s worked real hard to make the 129th Reunion a really great experience for everyone. We now have the task of trying to duplicate that success as well as continue to have fun. You probably noticed some changes in the schedule last year. We think that the changes in the schedule helped to make sure that most people had something to participate in during most of the time. We tried to create a more “Kid Friendly” schedule and atmosphere because we all realize the importance of keeping our children interested is the key to continuing our Reunion for years to come.

We are asking each family to bring a poster of some kind to be hung in the tent. It does not have to be elaborate or fancy, you could just bring a collage of family photos or an outline of your family tree branch or pictures from the family vacation. Just about anything to do with your particular family would be great. It is always fun to see what each branch of the family has been up to during the summer. Be creative and have fun with it!

Everyone please keep in mind that a lot of major decisions are voted on at the Family meeting on Sunday morning. We all need to try and attend this meeting so that every branch of the family is involved in the decisions being made. The Officers need as much input from as many people as possible so we can make informed decisions that the majority of the Family will be happy with. The meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. with Family Worship and news, and it is our goal to be done by 12:00 p.m. Please make every effort to attend the meeting this year and be a part of the decision process. Keep in mind that this year we will also hold an Officer Election during the Family Meeting.

I would also like to let everyone know that this will be the first Officer Election following the new guidelines (See Meeting Minutes) that were discussed at last year’s Family Meeting. The information sheet will be available at the registration table, so grab a copy and let us know if you would be interested in becoming an Officer. Our Entertainment officer Jeff Bruegger found us a great new DJ last year, so don’t forget to attend the dance right after the talent show. And remember when the music stops we have the campfire just outside the tent keeping us warm and having fun long into the night. So purchase a dance ticket and come enjoy this great show and dance. Jeff will again be the host of the Talent show, so come up with something good to show the Family your wonderful talent. It doesn’t have to be a song. I remember lots of very funny skits and comedy acts in the past. I am challenging everyone to come up with a great comedy skit or act!

"Our Youth Is The Key To The Hackett Reunion Future.” Get your kids involved! Get them to participate in the Youth Committee. Get your kids to participate in the Kids’ Games. Adults and children can volunteer for one small detail that will make the reunion a success. That's why the reunion is 130 years old! Help hang the flags, tape the tablecloths to the tables or help with table and chair set-up. Terry Hackett has always said, "There’s an Old Indian Saying: 'Many People Make Little Work!" Please get involved with your reunion! Come to the Family Meeting! Be responsible and volunteer!!!

All the officers attended the mid-summer meeting on May 2nd, and we are all excited about this year’s Reunion. This was a really good meeting that allowed all the officers to gather together and make sure everything has been handled with care. We have a lot of really great people putting on the show this year, so stop and let them know of your support and opinion of how things are going. And don’t forget about attending the family meeting on Sunday!

As you read through this entire letter, please pay attention to the “List of Responsibilities” page. If your name is on that list you are responsible for the completion of that task, also you are responsible for gathering the names of all your helpers and getting that list to an officer. If for any reason (including mistakes) you are not going to be able to complete the task listed, you MUST contact an officer as soon as you can to allow us to help find a replacement to handle the responsibility. As you will see we have a couple slots (covering the tables and hanging the tiki lights) that need someone to step up and volunteer to be responsible for the completion of these tasks. Everyone doing their part is the key to a smooth Reunion. This is a great way to get involved with the Reunion and make it a success!

We want to invite anyone interested in Golfing to check the box on the pre-registration form to get reserved. We ask that those who want to join in on this activity to please reserve your spot by pre-registering to allow enough time to make the reservations. Also give us your average score for 9 holes.

We need to keep updating Jim Rose JR. with any Birth’s, Death’s & other changes in our Family. Jim is working on the next edition of the Family Tree Book to be available at the 135th Reunion. E-Mail Jim at likearose3@att.net or call 816-537-5925 with any changes within your family or with any questions.

Please take advantage of the pre-registration form. It makes things a lot easier on the officers when we can take care of a majority of the registrations ahead of time. Our goal is to get 80% of all registrations pre-registered. Please do all you can to help us meet this goal.

On behalf of the entire Executive committee, the youth group, and the Past Presidents Council, God Bless and we hope to see you ALL at the 130th Hackett Family Reunion.

Howard Lund, 130th Hackett Family Reunion Co-President.
